TikTok Nearing Deal with Oracle

tiktok news

TikTok, the popular short form video app that has taken the globe by storm over the past two years, is reportedly nearing a deal which will see Oracle Corp. storing their United States users information without its Chinese parent ByteDance having access, according to Rueters.

The deal is in hopes that it would address U.S. regulatory concerns over data integrity on the app, and for their millions of TikTok content creators as well.

Oracle had discussed acquiring a minority stake in TikTok in 2020 amid pressure from the United States to sell the app.

Currently, some of TikTok’s user dats is stored on Alphabet Inc’s Google Cloud.

Should the new deal become official, which it certainly seems to be trending that way, there would then be a dedicated U.S. data management team of hundreds of people acting as a gatekeeper for U.S. user information, and ByteDance would not have any access to that data.

The team will reportedly be comprised of engineers and cyber security personnel, and would operate independently from TikTok’s control or supervision.

TikTok is also exploring partnerships with other technology companies regarding firewalls and cyber security measures.
